It's helped me study effectively more and it's helped me , you know , really enjoy swimming more over this past year . So being a leader here at YSU , you know , I , I feel that like I'm responsible for You know , all the kids that like I oversee , all the , all my teammates and other athletes , and it feels great being a leader here because , you know , I I have had success , you know , I'm a lead by example type of type of person , and , you know , I've had success here at YSU . I've also had failures here at YSU .
So Youngstown State will , will always have my heart , and my advice that goes out to someone who's trying to come to any Division I school is , you know , this , this school is family , and they really do take care of you here , you know , they keep their promises . They , they are what they preach and you know , I've been lucky to have the opportunity to You know , be in the , be on the SAC committee , be given opportunities to grow as a , as a person , as a man , as a leader , um , you know , and YSU provided all those opportunities for me . So , you know , it's got that .
Even , even just , you know , blanket statement if you're just looking for a campus feel with a great atmosphere , like , you know , YSU is the spot , but if you also want to be someone who goes beyond the bells and whistles that YSU has , YSU also offers , you know , opportunities to grow as a person , as a leader , and You know , that's , that's the best thing that you can do . It sets you up for a great position in life . One thing that I picked up since I've been coming to YSU was , uh , the availability of like recovery modalities that You know , it's probably been , you know , the greatest , my greatest saving , saving grace , keeping me recovery , keeping me ready , because I never really learned how to recover in high school .
So , you know , it's got that . I've come back from , you know , hardships and , you know , I've been able to be that fiery person still and , you know , try to lead by example , try to come back and , you know , I think , I think people respond to that . um you know , I have taken a couple , you know , Teammates under my wing showed them like what I do , my prep , everything like that , and I've , I've seen kids become teammates become , you know , successful in what they do and even as like outside of the pool when I'm doing coaching , you know , I think it's , you know , I like to pride myself on my accomplishments and , you know , it helps , it helps people listen , you know , there's this team that I coach locally . And you know they , they seem to respond to what I , what I say , what I tell them , and they buy in and and I think that's the most rewarding thing as a as a coach and someone who's nearing the end of their collegiate career .
