So the original hotel Californian was here at the corner of State and Mason built in 1925 . It was about 10 days later that the very prominent earthquake and subsequent fire demolished the majority of Santa Barbara , including the brand new hotel California . So after that , we were rebuilt , really the Phoenix rising up through the ashes .
