Thinking , man , I want to be in their shoes one day to go to the next level and be at that spot already and now I'm sitting here in my 4th year and being like , man , I wish I can go back to being a freshman and taking in more moments that you might have not cherished so much at the time and um just connections based . I think the universities you go to have a lot of connections that can help you move forward in your life after sport and if you don't utilize those or take advantage of all the events or donor events they're doing , you can miss out on a lot of opportunities that will help you later in life . Yeah , the most important thing I focus on in my training is obviously the technicality piece .
I had Cincinnati , which was my first offer sophomore year as a walk-on . Then I had Indiana State and Ohio University as full rise , and I ended up going with Ohio University because of the scholarship . And when you get a scholarship , it means the coach is putting their betting money on you , pretty much having their faith in you to come in and maybe have a role as a kicker in your first year and played my whole freshman year , um .
Some final advice I'd give for you younger athletes is to just live in the moment and enjoy every day you have . High school and college are arguably the best times of your life , and being this young and being this able to go play a sport and not . Get so sore and get so injured and feel so hurt all the time is a blessing in itself , and you want to take advantage of all those moments you're going to grow up you're gonna have years where you can go do something with your life after the fact , but you only have sports for such a long time , so cherish those moments and take it all in .
I always end up seeing somebody in Wisconsin gear and then just the relationships you can build off of that you will never get this time back being a younger college athlete and having the influence you have now , which you won't probably have later in life and I mean this campus brings you everything you need in just one area and that's why it's my Wisconsin , yeah , I think just having that um . Influence you have here at this university , I do a lot of community service personally . I think I'm one of the top 3 athletes here and all of the sports organizations that has the most community service hours , so being able to go out there and influence others and younger people , you don't know the difference that it makes .
I mean , you look around , you go outside , you're between two lakes , you got a beautiful city , beautiful town , and the nicest people you'll ever meet . You got an education that will take you so far in life , but that's all I hear from people who have graduated from here . And I've been in these shoes you got Wisconsin alumni everywhere you go , any state .
